Sprinkler Blowout Terminology: Zones, Heads and Timers
Sprinkler blowout terminology can make a simple booking confusing. Zones, sprinkler heads and controller programs are different things. Knowing the difference helps you give the office an accurate picture of your system.
Sprinkler blowout terminology: zones and heads
Toro describes a station as a group of sprinklers controlled by a valve. Several heads can therefore belong to one zone. If the office asks for the zone count, do not count every visible sprinkler head. Use the installed zone list or ask how the count can be checked.

Programs are watering schedules
Programs A and B do not necessarily mean two zones. They are sets of watering instructions that can use the same zones. Likewise, a twelve-station controller may have unused positions. The useful figure for the booking is the number of installed zones, with any uncertainty clearly noted.
Make a short equipment list
Write down each controller's location and the known zones it operates. Add the areas they water, such as front lawn or rear beds. List separate hose timers on their own lines. You do not need a perfect drawing; a clear list with questions marked is a helpful start.
